SEO Project Management

Syndicate Worthy Press Release

I once worked for the marketing communication in a mall and one of my tasks was to make a press release. It involved me being in the event and writing an article about it. Of course it was more of a promotional type since I was writing for the mall. That was the generic definition of a press release back then. And of course, there has been a lot of changes since that time. In relation to SEO, press releases are powerful tools to create awareness and market your site. And more importantly, if done properly, it is a mega-powerful tool in getting links to relevant and top-ranking sites. The presence of Business Wire, PR Newswire, PRWeb and Market Wire make it easier for you to gain access into popular news search engines, number one of which is Yahoo!. And if your press release is good enough for them, it would mean syndication, which would lead to (as I’ve mentioned above) exposure for your site and getting valuable links.  But before your imagination leads you somewhere else, here are some reminders for you to have an optimized press release:

  1. Make the Headline keyword rich with a big bang. What do I mean when I say big bang? It has to catch the eye of your target market and it has to be amazing enough to lead them to click it. I’m sure you’ve done your research on the best keywords to use, so that will be no problem for you.
  2. Use keywords in the first paragraph. Sprinkle a majority of your keywords on the first paragraph. Or technically, that would be the in first 200 to 250 words.
  3. Layman’s terms please! As much as you are targeting your market and you believe that you are on the same wavelength, do remember that there are more than a million more potential customers out there who you can attract if you use simple words and not jargon.
  4. Make it graphic. Since it’s an avenue for you to promote your site, you would want to include your company logo, put pictures, attractive graphics and videos or video links so that it will be more visually appealing.
  5. Humans first not bots. No matter how much you want to optimize your website to make it SEO attractive, remember that you have a target market and they’re humans.

Just follow these principles and you’ll get on more than just fine. For more useful tips, check out this article on Press Release Tips.
