Traffic sucks. I’ve been to a place before where traffic is really bad. I remember getting stuck in a taxi for 3 hours only to find out that my destination was only 20 minutes away from my hotel. But there is a place where traffic is actually good. Not just considered good but is even desired and tools are purchased eagerly to have it! For the IT junkies and computer savvy generation, I know you know it. For the not so literate ones who have stumbled on this site, you will eventually know what I mean. Let us first define traffic in true IT guru fashion (why, from Wikipedia of course!) “Internet traffic is the flow of data in the internet.” To make this definition more graphic, we can compare it to the number of cars in the highway from the business zone to the residential zone. Now, lets narrow it down further. “Web traffic is the amount of data sent and received.” It is the number of cars who actually went inside the stores in the business zone. Or basically, the number of visitors you had, accidentally or intentionally.
I actually have just 3 simple steps for you to increase traffic (and this is just a matter of changing prepositions)
Just a friendly reminder: the tips that you are about to read aren’t get rich-quick schemes (or get-traffic-quick schemes for that matter). If you want those, just open your spam mail and I’m sure you’ll get a lot. Rather, these are tried and tested tools that could get you more traffic if you are patient and if you persevere enough. You won’t exactly get traffic by the droves but it will be a steady flow that will increase with each passing day.
This simply means that you go to sites where there is high traffic and find a way to put a link there.
a. One of the most visited sites is Yahoo Answers. It’s a site where there’s a lot opportunity to put links for your site. If you don’t have a Yahoo account, go get yourself one (or two depending on you). Then answer questions RELATED to your site. And I mean it when I say related. If you’re too blatant about it, Yahoo answers can find out if you’re spamming on them and possibly block you and your site. There’s a minimum for points that you should accumulate before they can click on your link so you have to answer as many relevant questions as you can. Make sure to read the questions and not just answer for the sake of getting points because you’ll get more if your answer will be chosen as the best one.
b. Try to find a way to get a link to Wikipedia, undoubtedly one of the most searched sites today also. You can add information to a topic or if it is something totally new, you can make your own page. This would require patience and perseverance though because Wikipedia may refuse your request over and over again but keep on trying anyway.
2.Go WITH the traffic.
Follow those who have gone before you. If you want to be among the ranks of those with heavy traffic volume, follow what they did. Don’t fall for those who promise quick solutions to your questions. Again, patience and perseverance is the key. One example is Google. You can check some must-dos on SEO by Google.
3. Go FOR traffic.
They say that you should always begin with the end in mind. If your goal is to increase traffic, then you will do something about it.
Go TO the traffic. Go WITH the traffic. Go FOR the traffic. Just remember these 3 steps. You might not be on your way to overnight stardom but you’re definitely not going to be a one hit wonder.
